Office Policy

Appointment Scheduling

New patient appointments are generally available within one or two working days.

Cancelling Appointments

We do not overbook to compensate for those who fail to honor their appointments, thus each and every appointment space is important.

We recognize that your time is important and we make every effort to run according to schedule with minimal waiting time. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late to your appointment, you will need to reschedule and it will be considered a missed appointment.

Our cancellation policy is as follows:

  • No charge for cancellation at least 24 hours in advance.
  • $ 25 charge for cancellation within 24 hours of your appointment time.
  • $ 50 charge for failure to show up or call to cancel your appointment

You are responsible for this charge because it cannot be billed to your insurance company.

Unavoidable circumstances may warrant special consideration, but please note that the above charges will apply to most cancellations.

Inclement Weather

Our weather policy is straightforward – we are open! Since 1996, we have never cancelled any office appointments or procedures for weather related reasons. If you believe that travel is too difficult or hazardous due to bad weather, please call to reschedule your appointment.

Prescription Refills

Most prescriptions can be refilled for up to one year after your last visit. After that period, I require a follow up visit. This allows me to assess the effectiveness of the treatment, evaluate your needs, and consider possible alternatives that have become available.

We try to refill prescriptions within one working day. It may take one or more additional days if preauthorization from your insurance company is required.

Obtaining Test Results

Except in urgent circumstances, I strongly believe that a follow up visit, either in person or via telehealth, is the best way to review test results. I recognize that an appointment is sometimes inconvenient, however, it is the best way to ensure that your concerns will be addressed thoroughly and that an appropriate plan for future care will be formulated.

This is particularly true if a procedure has been performed or if you are have unresolved symptoms.

My office staff are glad to confirm that test results have been received, but can not interpret the results or provide recommendations without my direct instructions.  If I have reviewed the test results, they may also be able to provide general information to help put your mind at ease.  Of course, we will make every reasonable effort to contact you regarding unexpected or urgent findings.

I encourage patients to be actively involved in their care, so if you want the raw data, here are links to several patient portals, where you can often get the exact same information that is available to me:

Requesting Medical Records

Information regarding your care is provided to your referring physician as a matter of routine. This includes test results and recommendations.

For accounts in good standing, we will gladly mail or fax pertinent sections of records for the purposes of medical care. An example might be recent procedure report and laboratory results. We provide this as a courtesy and there is no charge.  Email of medical records may be done on a case by case basis but is strongly discouraged since many medical records contain extensive personal information.

For other requests, a charge may apply.  Per The Annotated Code Of Maryland §4-304, a prepaid fee of 62¢ to 83¢ per page plus actual postage and handling is generally permitted. An additional preparation fee of $22.88 may also apply. These fees must be paid in advance by cash, check, or credit card.
